HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech soccer team is set to open GLIAC play hosting Davenport Friday at 6 p.m. and No. 1 Grand Valley State on Sunday at noon.Â
The opening weekend will also serve as Parents Weekend for the Huskies.

About the Panthers
Davenport enters league play after going 2-1-1 in the nonconference slate. Most recently the Panthers went 0-1-1 with a 1-1 draw to Northwood on Thursday and a 2-1 loss to Cedarville on Saturday.
Senior Haley Diekevers paces the Panthers' offense with five points, two game-winning goals and an assist. She's tallied 16 total shots with eight on goal. Freshman midfielder Ella Chatfield has also netted two goals in four starts for DU.
Diekevers earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week accolades in week one.
First-year goalkeeper Elizabeth Wolter has started all four games for the Panthers making 13 saves (.813 save percentage) while facing 34 shots and allowing 0.75 goals against average.
Joe White returns for his second season at the helm of the Panthers were predicted to finish seventh in the GLIAC.
About the Lakers
Grand Valley State is once again atop the national polls and holds a 3-0-1 record following nonconference play. The Lakers had two Top-10 wins with a 1-0 victory in the season and home opener against No. 9 Ashland and most recently handling No. 4 Central Missouri 2-1 on the road on Sunday (Sept. 15).
Junior defender Kay Lauer earned GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors for her efforts in the 2-0 weekend to conclude nonconference play. She played in all 90 minutes of action at Central Missouri while also logging 90 minutes in the 1-1 draw at Northwest Missouri State where the Lakers outshot the Bearcats 22-8.Â
For the second-straight week, the Lakers have earned GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors, as Mackenzie Ford earned the nod in the first week of action.
Offensively the Lakers are posting 1.25 goals per game on 12.8 shots. Emma Chudik and Alli French lead GVSU with four points, two goals and one game-winner, respectively. French leads the team in shots with 10 and seven on goal.
Goalkeepers Isabel Imes and Cailynn Junk each have two starts in net and a shutout this season.
Katie Hultin is back for her third season at the helm of the Lakers who were predicted to finish second in the league.
About the Huskies
Michigan Tech completed its nonconference ledger on Tuesday on the road falling to Northwood 4-1 and holds a 2-1 record overall.Â
The Huskies will have a short-term memory after having momentum in the first half against the Timberwolves outpacing NU 12-3 in shots and a 3-0 advantage in shots on goal with a couple of shots finding the goal post and crossbar.Â
Northwood flipped a switch at halftime and jumped out to a 2-0 lead five minutes into the second period before ultimately winning 4-1 with the Huskies' lone goal being an own goal by the Timberwolves.
Freshman midfielder Megan Antczak made her second career start against Northwood posting a season-high four shots to lead the Huskies. Julia Pietila and Reilly Lovercheck have recorded game winners in the opening weekend for Tech.
Bri Barrows had two shutouts in her first two starts in net for the Black & Gold while transfer goalkeeper Ludesha Reynolds earned the start against a tough Northwood opponent.Â
The Huskies were tabbed to finish sixth in the GLIAC in the preseason coaches' poll.
