HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech soccer team was defeated by St. Cloud State 3-0 on Sunday at Kearly Stadium. The Huskies from Minnesota scored one goal in the first half and a pair in the second half.
"St. Cloud is a really good team," Tech coach
Melissa Kuhar said. "Their number 22 up top, Trapino, will be a potential All-American this season. She's a really good player, and they do a good job setting her up.
"We shot ourselves in the foot on a couple of those goals and didn't help Bri out. She had nine saves and played well again today. It's nice having her healthy. We need to be more clinical on offense and keep pushing for a full 90 minutes."
SCSU got on the board 15:34 into the game when Laney Haviland shot in a loose ball in the middle of the box.
The visiting Huskies added to their lead at 48:04 when Linsey Trapino broke free on a breakaway and scored inside the box.
Trapino scored her second of the game with 37 seconds left when she used her speed on the outside and went in alone on the goalkeeper.
Tech generated 10 shots on the day with eight in the second half.
Abbey Sayers had a header saved 13:00 into the second half and another shot saved 21 minutes into the second.
Sophie Rater and
Karli Koskinen also had shots on goal.
The Black and Gold hit the road next weekend to wrap up non-conference play at Northwood on Thursday and Cedarville on Saturday.
