Women's Tennis takes down Hillsdale

HILLSDALE, Mich. – The Michigan Tech women's tennis team earned its first win of the season with a 5-2 victory at Hillsdale on Saturday. The Huskies earned their five points in singles. The men's squad fell 4-3 against the Chargers with three singles wins.

Tech coach Kristin D'Agostini-Yep talked about the women's match, "We started off slow today and lost the doubles point, but we fired it up in singles. It was a good recovery with a quick turnaround after yesterday."

Grace Eland won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 singles and Chiara Heinz also earned a quick win at No. 5, 6-2, 7-5. Emily Rose (4) dropped her first set 6-1 but recovered and won the final two 6-4, 6-4. Emily Cojocaru (6-4, 4-6, 6-3) and Marina Fernandez (6-1, 3-6, 1-0) were able to edge their opponents in three in three and six singles.

Emily Rose and Emily Cojocaru opened the day with a 6-4 doubles win in the No. 2 slot.

In the men's match, Vitor Jordao and Nikolai Prosjanykov both went undefeated on the day with Prosjanykov going 4-0 on the weekend. Jordao and Prosjanykov won 6-3 in No. 2 doubles. Jordao then rallied after falling in the first set in No. 1 singles and Aidan Pack 4-6, 7-5, 6-4. Prosjanykov (4) was victorious 6-2, 6-4.

"That was an extremely tough fight today for us today," D'Agostini-Yep added. "We were down one due to injury and still fought to the end to make it a close battle."

Landon Coates won the other points for the Black and Gold 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 in the five spot.

The Huskies are back on the road next weekend to play at McKendree on Friday and Lewis on Saturday.
