#14 Warriors handle Huskies 7-0

HOUGHTON, Mich. – Michigan Tech men's tennis fell 7-0 to No. 14 Wayne State Saturday at Gates Tennis Center. Last year's National Division II runner-up Warriors took 23 minutes to seize the team doubles point before handling the short-handed Huskies in singles.

Senior Vitor Jordao (Recife, Brazil) played well at No. 1 singles for Tech, but was unable to absorb the big left-handed serve and baseline power of [#24] Cedric Drenth, falling 6-3, 6-0.

Adam Fenjiro was on his way to playing one of his best matches of the season at No. 3, matching Niklas Karcz shot for shot at the baseline and grabbing a 5-3 lead in the first set. However, Fenjiro was unable to convert a pair of set points, and an injury forced his retirement from the match at the mid-point of the second set.

With the absence of Eli Pinnoo and Nikolai Prosjanykov in the lineup, Ricardo Nunez played two spots up and fell to Denali Kitayama 6-0, 6-3 at No. 4. The Warriors also prevailed in straight sets at No. 5 and No. 6.

"Credit to Wayne State for playing a strong match today," said head coach Kristin D'Agostini-Yep. "They are always at the top of our league. I thought we competed well, especially Adam (Fenjiro) in his first set."

Michigan Tech (0-12, 0-4 GLIAC) No. 47 Grand Valley State next on Thursday, April 13 at 2 p.m.
