Grand Valley State too much for Michigan Tech 6-1

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Sweeping doubles and dominant singles play lifted Grand Valley State over Michigan Tech in men's tennis 6-1 Sunday at Grand Rapids Racquet and Fitness Center. For the second straight match, Andrew Freel was the lone winner for the Huskies as the team dropped to 0-6, 0-2 GLIAC. Tech is in the midst of a long road swing to start the season and is scheduled to play at Northwood next on April 8. Grand Valley State improved to 10-3 overall, 2-1 in GLIAC play.

Adam Fenjiro and Vitor Jordao pushed Josep Canyadell and Tomas Oliveira to a tiebreaker at No. 1 doubles but fell 7-6(3). Canyadell, ranked No. 63 in Division II singles bested Fenjiro at No. 1 6-0 6-0. Jordao took a set off Sean Miller at No. 2 singles but lost 11-9 in a third set super tiebreaker. Eli Pinnoo also went the distance at No. 4 but lost 6-0, 3-6, 6-3 to Martin Matov. Freel edged Ignacio Morara-Lucas 6-4, 6-7(4), 10-8 and Nikolai Prosjankyov lost a pair of close sets to Freddy Cossio 6-4, 7-5.

"As the scores reflected, I felt the match was much closer than the 6-1 final indicated," said head coach Kristin Yep. "We're just going to keep working hard to get better at taking those close matches."
