Huskies Downed by GVSU 8-1 in Men's Tennis

HOUGHTON, Mich. — Michigan Tech was defeated 8-1 by Grand Valley State in its final home men's tennis match of 2014-15. The Huskies earned its lone win at No. 2 doubles.

Javier Oliveros and Robin Duhnsen earned the 8-5 doubles victory for their second of the spring season. The visiting Lakers claimed the other two flights (8-2 at No. 1 and 8-0 at No. 3).

Duhnsen had a three-set battle at No. 2 singles, splitting the first two sets both by 6-1 scores before Zach Phillips won the third set 7-5.

Oliveros dropped a first-set tiebreaker 7-4 and the match 7-6, 6-2. Built Yumuang was forced to retire with injury at No. 3 singles. GVSU won the bottom three flights by straight sets.

"I was happy with our overall play once again," said Tech coach Kevin Kalinec. "We have to tip our hats to Grand Valley. They've got a good, deep lineup.

"Javier and Robin are playing really good tennis right now, and it's fun to watch."

Michigan Tech (1-11, 0-6 GLIAC) will continue its season Apr. 11 at Lake Superior State.
