Men's Tennis Opens 2015 Season with Split

ST. CLOUD, Minn. — The Michigan Tech men's tennis team opened its spring season by splitting in a pair of dual matches Saturday (Feb. 7). The Huskies lost their morning match to host St. Cloud 7-2 before defeating Augustana 7-2 in an evening tilt.

In the match vs. SCSU, the Huskies earned wins at Nos. 3 and 4 singles. Built Yumuang posted a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 3 while Nick Kremkow was a 7-5, 6-4 winner at No. 4.

Robin Duhnsen fell 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 singles. Javier Oliveros had a tight match at No. 2, falling in a super tiebreaker 6-7 (6), 6-4, 10-6. St. Cloud also swept all three doubles points.

Tech rebounded vs. Augustana, winning all but one singles and one doubles flights. Duhsen won his first No. 1 singles match as a Husky with a 6-7 (2), 7-6 (2), 10-8 decision. Kremkow also won a super tiebreaker at No. 4. Oliveros and Yumuang were both straight set victors at Nos. 2 and 3, respectively. Iliya Chibirev won at No. 5 after his opponent retired in the first set.

Yumuang and Duhnsen combined for an 8-2 victory at No. 1 doubles. Chibirev and Luke Doskey claimed their first win of the campaign 8-6 at No. 3

Michigan Tech will return to action with a GLIAC match at Findlay on Feb. 21.
