FERRIS STATE TOPS TECH 6-3 IN MEN'S TENNIS

HOUGHTON, Mich. — Ferris State defeated Michigan Tech 6-3 in men's tennis today at Gates Tennis Center. The Huskies (4-7 overall and 0-3 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) led 2-1 after doubles but couldn't hold on through singles.

Tech's top two doubles teams both won. Brett Girard and Douglas Yossida combined for an 8-4 win at No. 1, while teammates Brandon Ellefson and Anders Sandholm paired for an 8-3 triumph at No. 2.

Ferris State (8-5, 3-0 GLIAC) swept the top four spots in singles to claim the team victory. The Huskies' lone winner in singles was Tim Viola at No. 5. He came back from down a set to win 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-4) in a super tiebreaker.

"We started well in doubles, but still have to do a better job in our singles matches," said head coach Mike Axford. "Overall, we played better than last week and want to continue to improve every match."

Michigan Tech will play its fourth straight home match tomorrow (March 29) at 10 a.m. when it hosts Grand Valley State.
