Huskies Fall to #19 Timberwolves, 9-0
MIDLAND, Mich. -- Michigan Tech played its final match of the
2007 regular season at 19th-ranked Northwood today. The match was a
make-up of an April 7 match originally set for Houghton.
The Timberwolves (15-3, 7-0 GLIAC)came away with a 9-0 victory and
clinched the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
regular season title in the process.
All matches were decided in straight sets. Tech's number one
doubles combo of Brett Girard and Chris Calder lost, 8-4 to the
nation's eighth-ranked duo of Teddy Mebounou and Marius Broek.
In singles, Girard fell, 6-3, 6-3, to Henryk Seeger at number one.
The Huskies' Matt Tronnes faired slightly better in his 6-3, 6-4
setback at number six.
Michigan Tech (7-15, 2-5 GLIAC) will be the number six seed in this
weekend's GLIAC Tournament. The Huskies will face Mercyhurst
Saturday (April 21) at 9 a.m.
