Girard Claims Win at Number One Singles
ALLENDALE, Mich. -- Grand Valley State claimed a 7-2 victory
over Michigan Tech in men's tennis today at the Ramblewood Racket
Club. The Huskies are now 2-8 overall and 0-2 in Great Lakes
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play.
Tech grabbed a point in doubles play from its number three duo of
Justin Foley and Rajiv Nanjandareddy. The Huskies pair topped Mike
Bambini and Jim Farmer of GVSU by a 8-5 count.
Freshman Brett Girard claimed a 6-0, 7-6 (4) triumph at number one
singles to give Tech its other team point.
"We played better this weekend than we did against Lewis --
especially in doubles," said MTU Coach Mike Axford. "If we continue
to improve every week we will be playing our best tennis at the
GLAIC Touranment."
Michigan Tech has three important league matches coming up in the
next week, starting Wednesday (Mar. 29) at Lake Superior State.
Note: Girard owns the team's best dual-match singles record at 5-6
(all at number one singles).
