JOLIET, Ill. -- The Michigan Tech men's tennis team gained a
sweep of host Lewis, 9-0, today in an indoor match at the Five
Season Racket Club. The Huskies won the match in convincing fashion
as the Flyers won just one set on the evening.
Tech opened the match with wins at all three doubles positions. The
number one doubles duo of Brett Girard and Rick Halverson claimed
an 8-2 pro-set victory. Justin Foley and Rajiv Nanjandareddy
matched that score with a number three doubles triumph. Yassine
Borkadi and Chris Calder were 8-3 winners at number two
doubles.
In singles, Girard was the lone Husky to go three sets. The
freshman stormed back after losing the first set in his number one
flight match vs. Enrique Escalante to claim a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4
decision.
The only other close match was at number six, where Alan Parenteau
knocked off his opponent with back-to-back set scores of 7-5.
Michigan Tech (2-7) will be off until next Saturday (Mar. 25), when
it opens Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play at
Ferris State.
