About the Game
For the second-consecutive season, Michigan State has found a Division II opponent as their season-opening exhibition contest with GLIAC affiliate Wayne State played the Spartans a season ago in late October. The Huskies staff will see familiar faces across the scorers' table with former Michigan Tech players and coaches Kim Cameron and Maria Kasza on staff with Michigan State.
About the Spartans
Nationally ranked Michigan State is under the leadership of third-year head coach Robyn Fralick, a two-time National Coach of the Year honoree. Fralick boasts a 236-95 overall record in 10 seasons as a head coach, including three seasons at Ashland and five at Bowling Green, before taking over at Michigan State in March 2023.
Last season, the Spartans played to a 22-10 overall record and 11-7 in the Big Ten. Breslin Center proved to be a tough place to beat Michigan State, playing to a 13-2 ledger at home.
Senior forward Grace VanSlooten has been tabbed to the 2025-26 Coaches Preseason All-Big Ten Team, along with the 2025-26 Media Preseason All-Big Ten Team. VanSlooten earned Second-Team Big Ten honors last season and was first on the team in scoring with 15.5 points while adding 7.3 rebounds per game in league play.
In total, seven players from last season return for the Green and White with eight newcomers in the mix for the new season.
About the Huskies
Michigan Tech heads to East Lansing following the announcement of the GLIAC Preseason Coaches' Poll, where the Huskies were tabbed to finish sixth in the league.
Head coach Sam Clayton returns for her eighth season at the helm of her alma mater as the team returns 10 players from the 2024-25 campaign while adding three freshmen into the mix.
The Black & Gold maintain four starters from a season ago as the top scorers in sophomore Kendall Standfest (11.7 points, 7.9 rebounds per game), graduate student Janie Tormanen (11.2 points, 6.3 rebounds per game) and junior Alyssa Wypych (9.0 points, 4.4 rebounds per game).
Standfest and Tormanen each recorded career-highs of 22 points a season ago, with Standfest amassing seven double-doubles as a freshman.Â
