HOUGHTON, Mich. – For the second consecutive year, the Michigan Tech women's basketball team is opening the season at the NCAA D2 Midwest Region Tipoff hosted at the JustAGame Fieldhouse in the Wisconsin Dells.
The Huskies will face GLVC opponent Lewis on Friday before taking on Upper Iowa Saturday. Both games are slated for 8:00 p.m. (EST) starts. A live stream ($) and live stats of the games can be found at Michigantechhuskies.com/live.
About the Flyers
Lewis begins the 2025-26 campaign following back-to-back GLVC Championships in 2024 and 2025. The Flyers return GLVC All-Freshman honoree Yahaira Bueno, along with Ally Cesarini, who was an All-GLVC Second Team selection. Veteran Gabi Hoover also returns, starting 28 of 30 games last season for Lewis.
Cesarini averaged 10 points and 5.9 rebounds a season ago as Yahaira added 5.3 points and 1.8 boards.
First-year head coach Dodie Dunson brought in six signees prepped for the 2025-26 season with 11 returners from the 2024-25 roster.
The Flyers were selected to finish third in the GLVC preseason poll under first-year head coach Dodie Dunson.
About the Peacocks
Upper Iowa opens the season at the D2 Midwest Region Tipoff following the 2024-25 season, where the Peacocks went 13-14 overall and 10-10 in the GLVC.
Upper Iowa's top returner is Ava Privet, who averaged 7.4 points on 39.9 percent from the field. Sydnee Nelson was third on the team in assists a season ago, averaging 2.3 assists and 4.1 points per game. Six other players from the 2024-25 campaign return for the Peacocks, while adding seven newcomers with four transfers and three freshmen.
Upper Iowa was selected eighth in the GLVC Preseason Coaches' Poll under fourth-year head coach Justin Maass.

Michigan Tech opens its season in the Wisconsin Dells following an exhibition game at Michigan State on Oct. 22, where the Huskies fell 101-58.
In the game, the sophomore duo of Kendall Standfest and Ella Mason led the team with 15 and 14 points, respectively. Junior guard Alyssa Wypych was close behind with 13 points, going six-for-six from the free throw line while tying the team high of four rebounds.
Michigan Tech returns 11 players from the 2024-25 campaign while adding three newcomers in Brianna Anderson, Bella Hanna and Aubrey Johnson.
Standfest and graduate student Janie Tormanen are the top returners from a season ago, with Standfest averaging 11.7 points and 7.9 rebounds while Tormanen produced 11.2 points and 6.3 boards per game.
The Huskies were selected to finish sixth in the GLIAC Coaches' Poll as head coach Sam Clayton returns for her eighth season at the helm of her alma mater.
