Huskies tabbed sixth in GLIAC Coaches’ Poll

HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech women's basketball team was picked to finish sixth in the 2025-26 GLIAC Women's Basketball Preseason Coaches' Poll, announced Tuesday.

Grand Valley State was the unanimous preseason favorite with 10 first-place votes and 100 points. Ferris State earned one first-place vote but finished in third with 84 points behind 87 points from Northern Michigan in the second spot. Parkside (72 points) and Wayne State (66 points) were picked ahead of Michigan Tech, which claimed 48 points for sixth in the league.

Michigan Tech returns four starters from a season ago, including sophomore Kendall Standfest (11.7 points, 7.9 rebounds per game), graduate student Janie Tormanen (11.2 points, 6.3 rebounds per game) and junior Alyssa Wypych (9.0 points, 4.4 rebounds per game). 

In total, 10 Huskies return from a season ago under eighth-year head coach Sam Clayton (122-75), who brings in a class of three freshmen.

The Huskies have their first opportunity of the 2025-26 campaign on Wednesday, traveling to Michigan State for an exhibition game slated for a 6:30 p.m. tipoff.
