GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Michigan Tech women's tennis snuck out a 4-3 win at Davenport University in the first conference matchup of the season Friday at MVP Sportplex. The teams split a pair of doubles positions. Then the Huskies took three of four singles and clinched the win at No. 1 when Ivona Gorgioski downed Willimien Coetzee despite losing a tiebreaker for the first set 6-7(1), 6-4, 6-3.
"It's a very different year where teams could be short-handed on any given day," said head coach Kristin Yep. "Today Davenport had five players available and we had only four. All matches counted as one point so we just sqeaked out a win. I was proud of our team."
The Huskies (1-4) play at Purdue Northwest Saturday at 1 p.m. at Forest Park Tennis Club.
