Huskies Roll to 6-1 GLIAC Win at Davenport

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Michigan Tech women's tennis team recorded a 6-1 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win at Davenport University on Saturday. The Huskies find themselves third in the GLIAC standings going into the final two conference matches of the season.

Michigan Tech (6-2, 5-2 GLIAC) took all three doubles contests to get the match moving in the right direction on Saturday. Sophomore Ivona Gorgioski and freshman Jessica Brown faced Adeline Nelson and Hannah Murphy of Davenport (1-5, 1-5 GLIAC) in the No. 1 spot in the lineup. The Huskies prevailed for the point by the final of 6-3 as Gorgioski and Brown improved to 6-2 in doubles contests on the season.

Senior Vicky Quinde and freshman Samantha Johnson teamed up in No. 2 doubles and outlasted Bruna Ralheta and Sophie Gossett 6-2 to take the match. Quinde and Johnson went to 6-4 in doubles competition this season with the trimuph. Senior Allenca Rolim and freshman Mirna Golac powered their way to a 6-4 decision in No. 3 doubles against Vladislava Shumilova and Steph Ritson Saturday. The three wins gave the Huskies a 1-0 lead going into the singles portion of the contest.

Gorgioski met Nelson in No. 1 singles and thanks to 6-3, 6-3 scores, notched her eighth singles win of the 2018 season. Brown had a solid singles performance as well, thanks to impressive scores of 6-1, 6-1 in No. 2 slot in the lineup. Brown faced Murphy and collected her ninth overall singles victory of the 2018 campaign. Johnson anchored the No. 3 spot in the lineup again on Saturday and the result was a 6-2, 6-4 decision over Ralheta. Johnson also has eight wins in singles this year, including the team matches and ITA Regional Tournament competition.

The No. 4 through No. 6 singles all went unfinished, with Tech picking up two of the three points. Quinde picked up the Huskies' point in the No. 4 spot while junior Anabella Neri grabbed a point in the No. 6 spot.

The Huskies will be back on the court Sunday for another GLIAC match at Purdue Northwest. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m. eastern time.
