HOUGHTON, Mich. — Michigan Tech dropped a 7-2 decision to Northwood in GLIAC men's tennis today at Gates Tennis Center. The visiting Timberwolves remained undefeated at 3-0 while the Huskies fell to 9-2.
Doubles was tightly contested between the teams. Tech's No. 1 duo of Felipe Dos Santos and Pedro Rodriguez earned an 8-6 victory. Northwood claimed an 8-3 victory at No. 2 doubles. At No. 3, the Huskies' Andrew Kremkow and Jimmy Konarske were up 7-6 serving for the match but ended up losing 9-7.
The Timberwolves claimed five of the six singles flights. All were by straight sets except for No. 5. Tech's Nick Kremkow lost his first set 6-3, but won the second 6-4 to force a super tiebreaker. NU's Victor Kasak won the breaker 10-3.
The Huskies' lone singles victory came at No. 3, where Built Yumuang earned a 6-3, 6-1 triumph.
"We showed some real improvement in doubles today," said head coach Kevin Kalinec. "We played pretty well overall, but Northwood was just deeper."
Michigan Tech will play its next five matches in Hilton Head, S.C., during its spring break trip Mar. 9-14.
