ASHLAND, Ohio — For the second straight day, the Michigan Tech women's tennis team fell just short on the courts. Today, it was Ashland edging the Huskies 5-4 in GLIAC play.
Tech got off to a better start today by winning two of three doubles matches. No. 2 doubles duo Kira Eck and Kwang Suthijindawong earned an 8-3 victory while Erika Tenizbaeva and Chelsea Uganski claimed an 8-5 decision at No. 3.
Tech had an opportunity to sweep the doubles, but the host Eagles claimed the top flight by a 9-7 score.
Natalia Lebedeva kept her singles season rolling with a 7-5, 7-5 victory at No. 1 to improve to 8-0 at the position. Suthijindawong made quick work over No. 2 opponent, 6-1, 6-2. She is also 8-0 in singles on the year.
Ashland (4-0) won at each of the flights from No. 3 to No. 6 to gain the necessary five points for the team win.
Michigan Tech, which is now 6-2 overall and 3-2 in GLIAC play, will wrap up a three-match road swing with a 10 a.m. tilt at Tiffin tomorrow.
