Northwood Beats Tech 6-3 in Women's Tennis

HOUGHTON, Mich. — Northwood remained undefeated in GLIAC play by beating Michigan Tech 6-3 in women's tennis at Gates Tennis Center today. The Huskies' three individual match wins was just the second time the 13-0 Timberwolves had surrendered more than two in a day.

Tech's wins came at Nos. 1 and 2 singles and No. 2 doubles.

Kwang Suthijindawong was a part of two of those three despite battling a back injury. The sophomore earned a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Svenja Stephan at No. 2 singles to remain undefeated in singles on the year at 14-0. Suthijindawong then paired with Kira Eck for an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles.

No. 1 singles player Natalia Lebedeva continued her dominance in singles as well. The Huskies top player became the first to defeat NU's Susana Alcarez by earning at 6-3, 6-4 decision.

"I'm really proud of Kwang and Natalia both," said head coach Kevin Kalinec. "Kwang fought through to help us get two wins, and Natalia played very well."

Michigan Tech has completed its 2012 fall season with a 7-10 overall record and 4-10 GLIAC slate. The Huskies did not qualify for the GLIAC Tournament and will begin working toward their spring season.
