MIDLAND, Mich. - Michigan Tech moved into the fifth-place match
of the GLIAC Men's Tennis Tournament with a 5-0 victory over Tiffin
this afternoon. The Huskies are 1-1 in the tournament after a 5-2
loss to Ferris State late last night.
Tech's sweep of Tiffin improved its record to 10-9 overall.
The Black and Gold jumped out to a strong lead and closed out
all three doubles matches. James
Konarske and Chris
Verhulst won the closest of the three flights with an 8-5 score
at No. 3.
All six singles matches were started, but only two finished
because the match was halted once the team outcome was decided. Anders
Sandholm won his No. 2 singles match with a 6-1, 6-0 score. Doug
Yossida clinched the fifth team point with a 6-3, 6-4 victory
at No. 3.
"We were able to start well in doubles and pull away at the
end," said head coach Mike
Axford. "Anders played a great match at No. 2.
"This was a good way to carry momentum into tomorrow's
match."
Michigan Tech will look to guarantee itself a winning season
with a victory in tomorrow's fifth-place match vs. Lake Superior
State. The final round of the GLIAC Tournament is set to get
underway at 9 a.m.
