HOUGHTON, Mich. - Michigan Tech wrapped up its 2011 fall women's
tennis schedule today with a 6-3 loss at Lake Superior State. The
Huskies conclude their fall campaign with a 3-9 record (3-9 in
GLIAC play). The Lakers improved to 12-5 (7-5 GLIAC) with their
win.
"The ladies battled hard all fall," said first-year head coach
Kevin
Kalinec. "I'm proud of them."
Tech trailed 2-1 after doubles. Ploy
Suthijindawong and Chelsea
Uganski combined for an 8-5 victory at No. 2 doubles,
accounting for the Huskies' point.
Suthijindawong went 2-0 on the day by winning her singles match
as well. She cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 triumph at No. 2. Tech's No. 1
player Natalia
Lebedeva capped a 9-5 fall season with a 6-3, 6-1 victory in
her match.
Uganski battled back from a 7-5 first-set setback with a 6-4 win
in set two. LSSU's Kaitlynn Hutchinson beat Uganski 10-8 in the
third-set super tiebreaker.
Lake Superior State won matches at Nos. 3, 4, 5 and 6
singles.
Michigan Tech, which did not qualify for the GLIAC Tournament,
will wait to compete again until the spring season. Lewis will be
the Huskies' next opponent on Feb. 18.
