LSSU Tops Tech Tennis 6-3

HOUGHTON, Mich. - Michigan Tech wrapped up its 2011 fall women's tennis schedule today with a 6-3 loss at Lake Superior State. The Huskies conclude their fall campaign with a 3-9 record (3-9 in GLIAC play). The Lakers improved to 12-5 (7-5 GLIAC) with their win.

"The ladies battled hard all fall," said first-year head coach Kevin Kalinec. "I'm proud of them."

Tech trailed 2-1 after doubles. Ploy Suthijindawong and Chelsea Uganski combined for an 8-5 victory at No. 2 doubles, accounting for the Huskies' point.

Suthijindawong went 2-0 on the day by winning her singles match as well. She cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 triumph at No. 2. Tech's No. 1 player Natalia Lebedeva capped a 9-5 fall season with a 6-3, 6-1 victory in her match.

Uganski battled back from a 7-5 first-set setback with a 6-4 win in set two. LSSU's Kaitlynn Hutchinson beat Uganski 10-8 in the third-set super tiebreaker.

Lake Superior State won matches at Nos. 3, 4, 5 and 6 singles.

Michigan Tech, which did not qualify for the GLIAC Tournament, will wait to compete again until the spring season. Lewis will be the Huskies' next opponent on Feb. 18.
