HOUGHTON, Mich. - Grand Valley State defeated Michigan Tech
8-1 in women's tennis at Gates Tennis Center today. The Huskies
fell to 1-3 with the loss.
Tech's lone point came at No. 2 doubles, where Natalia
Lebedeva and Asel
Otunchieva combined for an 8-6 victory. GVSU won the other two
doubles points by 8-5 and 8-1 scores.
In singles, Nathalia
Rondelli was the only Husky to win a set. She took the opening
set off of Chelsea Johnston 6-3 before the Laker came back with a
6-2 and 6-1 set scores to win the match.
"We started out okay, but couldn't get wins at No. 1 and No. 3
doubles," said head coach
Mike
Axford. "We didn't carry any momentum over from doubles into
singles. Only Nathalia started well and that was not enough."
Michigan Tech will return to the hard courts of Gates Tennis
Center tomorrow morning with a 10 a.m. match vs. Ferris
State.
