MIDLAND, Mich. - Michigan Tech split its two matches today at
the GLIAC Men's Tennis Championship at Midland Community Tennis
Center. The Huskies lost their opening round tilt vs. Wayne State
5-1 before defeating Tiffin 5-2 in the second round.
Tech received its lone point vs. Wayne State at No. 2 doubles,
where David
Heuer and Anders Sandholm earned an
8-4 decision. WSU won the other two doubles matches by identical
8-6 scores to take a 2-1 lead into singles.
The Warriors wrapped up the team win with straight-set victories at
Nos. 1, 3 and 5.
Tech faced Tiffin in the second round and came away with the 2-1
lead after doubles this time. Heuer and Sandholm posted their 11th
win of the year at No. 2 doubles while Tim
Viola and Chris Verhulst triumphed 8-4
at No. 3.
Huskies' No. 1 singles player Luka
Stupar earned his first win of the day with a 6-4, 6-1 score.
Sandholm also was victorious with a 6-3, 6-2 decision at No. 2.
Tech's No. 4 singles player Doug Yossida iced the team
win over Tiffin with a 6-4, 7-5 score.
Michigan Tech now owns a 9-9 record on the season. The Huskies will
wrap up play in the GLIAC Tournament tomorrow at 9 a.m. vs. Lake
Superior State.
