Women's Tennis Wraps Up Fall Regular Season with 8-1 Win

HOUGHTON, Mich. - Michigan Tech wrapped up its fall regular season in decisive fashion with an 8-1 win over Lake Superior State today at Gates Tennis Center. The Huskies moved over .500 with the win at 6-5 overall and 6-5 in GLIAC play.

Tech won at every flight except No. 6 singles. The Huskies swept doubles with 8-2, 8-0 and 8-6 scores at Nos. 1, 2 and 3, respectively. Caitlin Hartley and Anna Hegyi played an aggressive match at No. 3 to win the closest of the flights.

In singles, the hosts had the team match won with the first two matches off the courts. Hegyi posted a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 4. Senior Nathalia Rondelli, playing in her final GLIAC home match, earned the deciding team point with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3.

Ploy Suthijindawong, Natalia Lebedeva and Asel Otunchieva were also dual winners (singles and doubles).

"We played with more confidence today and had a good win," said head coach Mike Axford. "This should help us moving on to the conference tournament next week."

Michigan Tech will participate in the GLIAC Tournament next Friday and Saturday (Oct. 22-23).
