BIG RAPIDS, Mich. The Michigan Tech men's tennis team
lost, 9-0, at Ferris State today. The Huskies (2-13 overall, 0-4
Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) wrapped up a
10-match road swing with the match.
Number one singles player Brett Girard turned in the tightest match
of the day for Tech. He was edged 6-4, 7-5, by Lewis DeGeneault. At
number six, it was Matt Tronnes who went to a tiebreaker in the
first set. He was defeated, 7-6 (4), 6-2.
Girard and Tronnes combined at number one doubles and fell, 8-4, in
a match closer than the final score indicated.
"We played a little better today than yesterday, but we need to
keep improving," said head coach Mike Axford. "Brett played really
well this weekend against some strong opponents."
Michigan Tech has three regular season matches remaining. The next
two are at Gates Tennis Center. The Huskies host Findlay Friday
(April 4) at 1 p.m. and Mercyhurst Saturday (April 5) at 10
a.m.
