Huskies Finish Weekend Road Trip 1-1
BIG RAPIDS, Mich. Michigan Tech claimed an 8-1 win at
Ferris State today in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference women's tennis match. The Huskies swept the doubles
matches and five of six singles matches in the decisive team
victory.
Amy Palmgren and Nicole Kirch gained their second win of the
weekend at number one doubles with an 8-4 pro-set triumph. Silvia
Oliveros and Nathalia Rondelli rolled to an 8-2 win at number two,
while Samantha Jang-Stewart and Asel Otunchieva gained an 8-6
decision at number three.
In singles, Palmgren, Oliveros, Otunchieva, and Heather Neff turned
in straight set wins at flights one, two, five, and six,
respectively. Jang-Stewart rebounded from a tough second set to win
7-5, 1-6, 6-3 at number four singles.
Tech's only loss of the day was a three-set decision at number
three singles where Nicole Kirch fell to FSU's Ann Grant, 3-6, 7-5,
6-3.
With the victory, Michigan Tech moves to 3-3 overall and 2-3 in
league play. The Huskies travel to Findlay and Wayne State next
weekend for more GLIAC matches.
