DETROIT Michigan Tech completed the weekend sweep of its
three opponents by knocking off Wayne State today, 6-3, in a Great
Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's tennis match. The
Huskies have now been victorious in four straight matches to
improve to 6-3 overall and 4-3 in league play.
Tech won four of six singles matches and two of three doubles
flights to gain the win.
Three Huskies were multiple winners on the day. Junior Silvia
Oliveros and freshman Nathalia Rondelli cruised to an 8-1 win at
number two doubles. Oliveros then won her number two singles match,
6-0, 6-3. Rondelli had it just as easy with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph at
number six.
Freshman Nicole Kirch was also a dual winner with an 8-6 win at
number one doubles with partner Amy Palmgren and a 7-6, 6-0
decision at number three singles.
"Today's win was a big one in terms of GLIAC standings," said head
coach Mike Axford. "Overall, the weekend was a success with three
team wins. We need to continue to improve each match and build off
the momentum."
Michigan Tech will have a weekend off before hosting Northwood on
Friday, Oct. 19.
