No. 12 Huskies close long road stand Monday at Ferris State

HOUGHTON, Mich. – Coming off a 70-64 loss at No. 22 Northern Michigan on Thursday, the No. 12 Michigan Tech men's basketball team will shift focus for a Monday tilt at Ferris State, slated for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff to conclude four-straight road contests.

The Game

The Huskies will look for a series sweep after securing an 81-72 victory over Ferris State at the SDC Gymnasium on Jan. 10. Marcus Tomashek netted his 2,000th career point in the win, with a game-high 25 points, joined in double-figures by Dawson Nordgaard (11).

About the Bulldogs

Ferris State will play the No. 22 Wildcats on Saturday before facing the Huskies. For the season, the Bulldogs are 10-13 and 7-9 in the league. FSU has played to a 3-3 record since falling to the Huskies on Jan. 10 and is 7-4 at the Jim Wink Arena this season.

The Bulldogs are league leaders in blocks per game (4.2), defensive rebounds per game (28.1), and three-point percentage defense (27.1). Owen Hardy and Mykel Bringham are both averaging over a block per game, which is top-five in the GLIAC.

Tae Boyd, a wide receiver for the Bulldogs, has impressed in 12 games for FSU and currently leads the team with 13.6 points per game, joined in double-figures by Mykel Bingham (13.1), Tyler Hamilton (12.9) and Chang Hoth (11.9).

Bingham ranks first in the GLIAC and 18th nationally with 10 double-doubles this season while shooting a team-best 53.9 percent from the field and leading the team in rebounding with 8.7 per game, also first in the league.

About the Huskies

Michigan Tech saw a four-game win-streak snapped at the Vandament Arena Thursday night, but still remains atop the GLIAC in a three-way tie with Northern Michigan and Grand Valley State. The Huskies are 22-5 overall and 13-4 in the loop.

For the second-straight Thursday, Dawson Nordgaard led the team in scoring with 18 points in Marquette. Marcus Tomashek (15) and Nate Abel (10) also reached double-figures as Abel controlled the glass for the Black & Gold with eight rebounds. Ty Fernholz tied his career-high of six rebounds and added a 3-pointer in 16 minutes of action.

The Huskies continue to have the best field goal percentage defense in the GLIAC (39.4), which ranks ninth in the country. The Huskies are also second in scoring defense (65.1), three-point percentage defense (30.6) and 3-point attempts per game (27.4).

Tomashek is 11th in the country in points per game (2.13) and points (555). Nordgaard (9.1), Fernholz (9.0) and Gabe Smith (8.5) are the next best scorers for the Black & Gold. Tomashek produces a team-best 2.9 assists to go with 4.1 boards per game as the duo of Abel (6.2) and Smith (4.1) lead the team in rebounds.

One Last Thing

The last time the Huskies played in the Jim Wink Arena, Tomashek netted a career-high 45 points in an 88-85 overtime win to secure the first road win in Big Rapids since Feb. 5, 2015.
