Copper Country Community Mental Health Awareness Day
The Michigan Tech Basketball Teams will host a Copper Country Community Mental Health (CCCMH) Awareness Day during their GLIAC doubleheader against Purdue Northwest this Saturday, at noon and 2pm. CCCMH consumers will play a short game at halftime during the women's and men's games to help raise awareness of the services Copper Country Community Mental Health provides in the four-county area.
About the Warriors
Wayne State has won three-straight games for an overall standing of 8-6 and a 5-3 GLIAC standing following wins at Davenport (80-66) and a weekend sweep of Parkside (82-78) and Roosevelt (76-67) at the Wayne State Fieldhouse.
The Warriors are producing 79.9 points per game on 46.4 percent shooting, led by a trio of players reaching double-figure scoring. Jordan Briggs posts 16.4 points and a team-leading 3.2 dimes. Carlos Paul III (13.4) and Jotham Nweke (10.1) join Briggs with over 10 ppg. The duo of Paul III and Nweke are the team's top rebounders with 5.7 boards and 4.6 per game, respectively.
Briggs has scored 20 or more points in four games, with a season-high of 35 points in a win over Ferris State.
Bryan Smothers returns for his fourth season leading the Warriors, who were selected to finish seventh in the league preseason poll.
About the Pride
Purdue Northwest is finding its footing under the leadership of Jordan Ashton, in his first year leading the Pride. PNW has played to a 7-8 record overall while going 3-5 in the loop.
Kyle Ross, a transfer from Thomas More, has excelled for the Pride in his first season with the team, producing 14.8 points, 7.7 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game. He is tops in the league in field goal percentage (59.2) and offensive rebounds per game (3.07), while his 7.7 boards per game ranks second in the GLIAC.
Ross has season-highs of 25 points, 15 rebounds and five steals.
Kevin Taylor also averages double-figure scoring with 11.2 points to go with 5.7 rebounds, while Kwat Adbelkarim (9.7) and Davontae Hall (8.7) also add vital scoring for the Pride.
Jordan Ashton is in his first season leading the Pride, who were tabbed to finish ninth in the preseason coaches' poll.

Michigan Tech returns to the SDC Gymnasium riding a five-game unbeaten streak, for an overall standing of 16-2 and a GLIAC leading 7-1 ledger. The Huskies were pushed to the limit on the road with wins over Saginaw Valley State (80-78) Thursday before escaping Lake Superior State (84-83) Saturday.
Michigan Tech's All-American, Marcus Tomashek, was clutch on the weekend, averaging 31.5 points on 48.6 percent from the field (17-35), 52.4% from three (11-21) and 18-22 from the foul line (81.8) while adding 3.5 assists and 2.5 rebounds. The standout from Green Bay, Wisconsin, recorded his 17th career game of 30 or more points with a game-high 36 points at Lake Superior State, adding a team-leading 27 points in Thursday's win.
Tomashek earned his second-consecutive GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week accolade, the third of the season and the 11th time in his career.
Dawson Nordgaard scored a career-high 20 points on 8-12 shooting as Gabe Smith secured his third double-double of the year with 12 points and 13 boards, as Nate Abel averaged 11 rebounds over the weekend, nearing a double-double of eight points and 11 rebounds at SVSU.
The Huskies remain one of the top defensive teams in the country with the eighth-best field goal percentage defense (38.3%), the 15th-best defensive rebounds per game (28.72) and the 17th-best scoring defense (64.5).
Tomashek paces the league in points (369), points per game (21.7) and field goal attempts (297) while Ty Fernholz adds 10.3 points off the bench, knocking down 2.89 3-pointers per game with the second-most 3-pointers made in the GLIAC (52).
One Last Thing
The Huskies average 9.7 3-pointers made per game this season and are 13-1 when allowing fewer than eight three-pointers and 13-1 when making more 3-pointers than the opponent.
