HOUGHTON, Mich. -- The season and home opener for the 103rd year of Michigan Tech football was a memorable one for not just current players, but also past players, as members of four championship teams were recognized at halftime of the Huskies' big win over No. 16 Bemidji State on Thursday, August 28, 2025.
Michigan Tech recognized and honored the alumni players who achieved the first four conference championships as part of the Decade of Champions Reunion. In a century-plus of Huskies Football, the Black and Gold have nine conference championship teams, and members of the first four championship teams were introduced.Â
In total, 36 former players return to their alma mater, a place where their playing careers were played from 1959 to 1972. The championship teams introduced were the 1959 team led by head coach Omar LaJeunesse, the 1963 and 1965 team under Bill Lucier and the 1969 team led by head coach Ted Kearly. Kearly also won two more championship teams in 1970 and 1972.
