No. 20 Ferris State heads across the Mackinac Bridge after a busy week, going 2-1 with wins over Roosevelt 96-72 Monday and Davenport 67-56 on Thursday before falling in Allendale to Grand Valley State (94-62) on Saturday.Â
The Bulldogs have lost three of their last five games despite having an overall standing of 20-5 and an in-conference record of 10-4 in a tie with Northern Michigan for second in the GLIAC standings. FSU ranks fifth in the D2CSC regional rankings.
As a team, the Bulldogs rank top-20 in assists per game (17.8), bench points per game (38.88), blocks per game (5.5), field goal percentage defense (39.8), defensive rebounds per game (29.36) and scoring margin (13.4). Ferris State notably ranks first in the GLIAC in three-point percentage defense (30.7%), which ranks 29th in the country.
Individually, the Bulldogs defensive anchor, Nathan Claerbaut, leads the team in rebounds (7.1) and blocks (2.64), while Jimmy Scholler has 36 steals this season to rank second in the league.
Ethan Erickson is the second-best scorer in the league with 16.8 points, including 2.96 three-pointers per game. Tyler Hamilton (11.2) and Claerbaut (9.6) are the next-best scorers for FSU, who average a league-leading 84.1 points per outing.
About the Lakers
No. 15 Lake Superior State travels across the U.P. following a weekend split, falling at Grand Valley State on Thursday (71-68) before completing a series sweep of Davenport 79-58 on Saturday.
The Lakers rank second in the latest D2CSCÂ region rankings with an overall record of 20-4 and a GLIAC ledger of 11-3, residing atop the league with the Huskies.
Lake Superior State ranks top-20 in assists per game (17.4), assist-to-turnover ratio (1.62), scoring defense (66.2), scoring margin (13.6) and three-pointers per game (10.4).Â
Offensively, the Lakers see five players averaging double-figure scoring, with Tyson Edmondson leading the way (16.1). Kingsley Perkins (12.5), Hunter Soper (11.5), Adam Harakow (11.0) and Devin Womack (10.4) join Edmondson.
Edmondson (3.00) and Soper (2.04) are among the top-10 in the league in three-pointers per game.
Soper paces LSSU with a team-leading 7.1 rebounds and 1.58 steals per game, while Womack averages 3.5 assists per game.

Michigan Tech most recently had a road weekend split, falling short at Wayne State (74-62) on Thursday before ending the weekend on a high note with a 78-73 win at Saginaw Valley State.
The talk of Saturday's win was redshirt freshman Gabe Smith earning his first career start, which turned into a career day as the St. Germain, Wisconsin, native scored a career-high 18 points, including 11-for-12 from the charity stripe to go with three rebounds in 33 minutes of action.
As a team, the Huskies recorded a season-high 38 free throw attempts, cashing in on 32.
Michigan Tech remains unbeaten at home as the top-scorer in the league is still the GLIAC Preseason Player of the Year, junior guard Marcus Tomashek (25.6 points per game), which ranks fourth in the country. The Green Bay, Wisconsin native produces 3.05 triples per game as the team ranks 22nd nationally with 9.9 three-pointers per game.
Dawson Nordgaard (9.7) and Pete Calcaterra (9.1) are the Huskies, next top scorers, with Calcaterra leading the team with five boards per game. Tomashek leads the team with 3.1 assists per game.
One Last Thing
The Huskies have the opportunity to earn a series sweep over Ferris State for the first time since the 2013-14 season.
