HOUGHTON, Mich. – Michigan Tech women's basketball head coach Eric Gruber has named Evie Wolshire as the assistant coach for the Huskies. Wolshire comes to Houghton after serving as a graduate assistant at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville the past two seasons.
"I am really excited to bring Evie on to our staff here at Tech. Being able to work with her the last two years at SIUE, I got to see how hard she works and her ability to connect with our student athletes," said Gruber. "We have a very familiar working relationship and Evie brings the perfect balance of a great personality to have around on a daily basis, and also a competitive side to be able to help grow this program day by day. She has a bright coaching future ahead of her and I couldn't be more grateful that we get to have her here at MTU."
"I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to join the Michigan Tech women's basketball family,"Â Wolshire said. "The student-athletes and the community have been so welcoming throughout this process. Having had the opportunity to work with Coach Gruber over the past two years, I am excited to continue that partnership while helping build on the tradition and success of this program. Go Huskies!"
While at SIUE, Wolshire assisted with practice planning and student-athlete development while contributing to game preparation through film analysis, scouting reports, and statistical evaluations. She supported recruiting operations by identifying and evaluating prospective student-athletes throughout the Midwest, coordinating recruiting communications, and assisting with campus visit planning while managing various team operations.
Before joining Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, Wolshire acted as an intern for the Wittenberg Athletic Department. She worked on scheduling and coordinating events and activities, and worked with community relations specializing on NIL brand awareness.
Wolshire is a native of Lancaster, Ohio, and attended Wittenberg University where she earned her bachelors in sport management. While pursuing her degree, she was a student-athlete playing for the Tigers women's basketball team. During her time with the basketball team, she acted as team captain and helped lead her team to two conference and one tournament championships. She also holds a record for single-game assists, recording eleven in one game.
Wolshire began her duties with Michigan Tech on Monday.
