HOUGHTON, Mich. – Michigan Tech men's basketball head coach Josh Buettner announced the signing of four future futures on the first day of the national signing period. The class includes Trey Brost, AJ Chambers, Ethan Marta and Kayden Schultz.
"I'm extremely excited about this class," said Buettner. "We added depth at the guard positions that can score, defend, lead, and facilitate all while being great people. They are winners and they compete."
Trey Brost | 6-0 | 160 | Guard | Bolingbrook, Ill. | Bolingbrook HS
Coach Buettner on Trey: "Trey is a Coach's kid that plays for a big time program. He is super skilled and a knock down shooter. He is super competitive and will be a great playmaker for us."
Brost is a three year starter, three-time team captain and three year member of the student-athlete Leadership Team (SALT) at Bolingbrook High School. He was a First Team All-Conference (SPC) selection and First Team All-Area-Joliet Herald News in his junior season, averaging 43 percent from three-point range, scoring 8.5 points and two steals per game. He averaged 5.5 points per game and was named to the All-Area-Joliet Herald News in his sophomore season. He is the son of Rob and Sarah and plans to earn a degree in business from Michigan Tech.
AJ Chambers | 6-0 | 175 | Guard | Chicago, Ill. | Depaul College Prep
Coach Buettner on AJ: "AJ is an unbelievable leader at the point guard position. He makes everyone around him better. He defends with passion and has a knack for making winning plays."
Chambers is a two-time state champion being named to the Pontiac All-Tournament Team and the Battle of the Bridges All-Tournament Team to go with All-Conference accolades. For his career, he has averaged eight points, four assists and two rebounds per game. He is the son of Maria and Rudy and plans to earn a degree in electrical engineering from Michigan Tech.
Ethan Marta | 6-3 | 185 | Guard | Ishpeming, Mich. | Westwood HS
Coach Buettner on Ethan: "Ethan is a big time scorer from the U.P. that took his team to the Breslin. He is a creative passer and scorer that doesn't back down from anyone."
Marta is a West-PAC conference Player of the Year, a member of the All-U.P. Dream Team and a Detroit News Division 3 and Detroit Associated Press Division 3 All-State selection. For his career, he averaged 26.6 points per game on 54 percent from the field to go with 5.8 rebounds 3.4 steals and 3.6 assists per game. Marta is the son of Brad and Rachel and plans to earn a degree in exercise science while at Michigan Tech. Â
Kayden Schultz | 6-2 | 180 | Guard | Plymouth Wis. | Plymouth HS
Coach Buettner on Kayden: "Kayden is one of the most gifted scorers we've recruited at Michigan Tech. He is a tremendous athlete that can score in every way imaginable on the court. All while being a great teammate that finds a way to make the game easier for his teammates"
Schultz is a two-time ECC Conference Player of the Year, earning All-State honors twice and has earned First Team All-Conference three times at Plymouth High School. He holds school records in total points (1,631), 3-pointers made (180), defensive rebounds (491) and total rebounds (491) to go with 305 total assists (3.9 average). Schultz also was a standout on the gridiron as a two-time All-Region defensive back, two-time ECC Defensive Back of the Year, two-time first team all-conference defensive back and a first team all-conference wide receiver. He is the son of Vicki and Tim and plans to earn a degree in accounting and supply chain management while at Michigan Tech.
