HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech men's basketball team has a tall task upcoming on the road facing No. 14 nationally-ranked Lake Superior State Thursday (7:30 p.m.) and No. 8 nationally-ranked Ferris State on Saturday (3 p.m.).

About the Lakers
No. 14 nationally ranked Lake Superior State suffered its second GLIAC loss of the season on Saturday, falling at Parkside 66-63. For the season, the Lakers are 15-3 overall and 6-2 in the GLIAC, residing in a tie for the second spot in the conference standings with Northern Michigan.
The Lakers produce 80.5 points per game while also dominating the offensive glass with 13.2 offensive rebounds per game, which is a GLIAC-high. On the flip side, the Lakers earn 8.3 steals and 2.7 blocks an outing while holding opponents to 67.1 points a game.Â
LSSU returns a full squad that made it to the Sweet Sixteen a season ago and sees five players in double-figure scoring led by the dynamic duo of Tyson Edmondson (15.9) and Kingsley Perkins (13.1). Hunter Soper (11.1), Devin Womack (10.7), Adam Harakow (10.6) round out the double-digit scorers.
Edmondson averages nearly three 3-pointers per game (2.94), while Soper has accounted for 34 3-pointers this season. Soper and Kingsley command the boards for the Lakers, averaging 7.1 and 6.4 rebounds per game, respectively. Defensively, LSSU holds its opponents to 67.1 points on 41.1 percent from the field.Â
Womack (3.6) and Nino Carter-Smith (3.2) average over three assists per game as the duo rank top-seven in the GLIAC.
About the Bulldogs
No. 8 nationally ranked Ferris State enters the week following its first GLIAC split of the season as Parkside downed the Bulldogs on Thursday. The loss snapped a 16-game win streak that started back on Nov. 2. The Bulldogs are 17-2 overall and 7-1 in the GLIAC with an 11-0 record at the Jim Wink Arena.Â
The Bulldogs are a dangerous team producing 86.5 points per game, which includes over 40 points coming from the bench (first in the league, fourth in the country) as the team shoots 49.9 percent from the field while holding the opposition to 38.8 percent shooting and 68.8 points per game.
Ethan Erickson paces the offense for FSU with 16.8 points per game—ranking second in the GLIAC, joined by Tyler Hamilton (11.2), and Nathan Claerbaut (10.7) and Reece Hazelton (9.2) as the team's top-scorers. Erickson has the green light from 3-point land, averaging 3.16 3-point makes per game while shooting 40.5 from beyond the arc.Â
Claerbaut does the dirty work for Ferris State, leading the way with 7.2 rebounds and 2.74 blocks per game. As a team, the Bulldogs are excellent at guarding the perimeter, holding opponents to 28.4 percent from the 3-point line while also being one of the top rebounding teams in the country, pulling down 41.16 boards a game, which ranks tops in the GLIAC and 15th nationally.
Ferris State was predicted to finish second in the league under longtime head coach Andy Bronkema.Â
About the Huskies
Michigan Tech has won four in a row following its third GLIAC weekend sweep of the season, remaining unbeaten at home with wins over Saginaw Valley State (68-66) on Thursday night and Wayne State (74-68) on Saturday. The Huskies are 12-4 overall and 7-1 in the GLIAC, locked with Ferris State atop the league.Â
The GLIAC Preseason Player of the Year, junior guard Marcus Tomashek, has continued to live up to the hype, finishing the weekend averaging 30.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and two blocks. The Green Bay, Wisconsin, native also hit the game-winning shot on Thursday against Saginaw Valley State. He continues to pace the GLIAC with 24 points per game, ranking seventh in the country.Â
Dawson Nordgaard averaged 14 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in the weekend sweep while shooting 11-for-19 (57.9 percent) for the Huskies.
As a team, the Huskies shoot 50.4 percent from the field, ranking first in the GLIAC and 13th in the country with first-year guard Ty Fernholz (11.5), Nordgaard (10.3) and Pete Calcaterra (10.1) join Tomashek in double-figure scoring. Fernholz is top three in the country, shooting 49.4 percent from 3-point land for an average of 2.93 3-point makes per game.
For the season, the Black & Gold are shooting 39.9 percent from deep, which ranks sixth in the country and leads the GLIAC.
Calcaterra controls the glass for the Black & Gold with 5.3 rebounds per outing, with Nordgaard adding 3.6 rebounds while amassing 15 blocks this season.

Michigan Tech hasn't defeated Ferris State at the Jim Wink Arena since Feb. 4, 2015.Â
