About St. Cloud State
St. Cloud State is playing in its first official road game of the season to conclude the non-conference slate after starting the campaign 4-3. The Huskies played in back-to-back tournaments to start the season, earning wins over Lubbock Christian (69-56) in their season-opener at the D2 Tip-Off Tournament and Central Missouri (79-73) the following weekend at the Central Region Challenge.
The Huskies played a familiar foe in Concordia-St. Paul the week before Michigan Tech faced the Golden Bears, dropping the contest in a 115-104 decision. Since then, SCSU has won two in a row over Upper Iowa (66-65) and Northland (93-43).
Sophomore guard Wyatt Hawks (10.7 points) and first-year guard Kynan Philippe (10 points) have started all seven games to open the season as the top scorers. Nate Dahl has made three starts, joining the guard duo in double-figures, chipping in 12.4 points per outing.
Hawks commands the glass for the Huskies with 7.7 boards, adding a steal and block defensively.
Sophomore guard Jamiir Allen was the Huskies leading scorer (16.8 points) through five games. Although, he hasn't been a part of the rotation since SCSU won its last two games.
As a team, the Huskies from Minnesota produce 78.7 points per game, connecting on 7.7 3-pointers while making 15.3 free throws an outing.
Quincy Henderson returns for this third year at the helm of the Huskies and has a 2-0 ledger against Michigan Tech in the last two seasons.
About Michigan Tech
Michigan Tech brings a 3-3 record to the SDC Gymnasium, appearing in front of its home crowd following a weekend split in Duluth, Minnesota, at the St. Louis County Basketball Classic.
The Huskies were tasked with two top-six nationally ranked teams, falling to host school then-No. 6 Minnesota Duluth (80-70) on Friday before handing then-No.3 ranked MSU Moorhead its first loss of the season (74-70) Saturday afternoon. It was the first win against the Dragons since 2009.
Junior guard Marcus Tomashek led the Black & Gold in scoring, averaging 34.5 points for the weekend, including a career-high 40-point outing on Saturday, scoring 30 of the Huskies' 42 second-half points. He shot 15-for-29 from the field with four 3-pointers and six free throws.
The Green Bay, Wisconsin, native earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week and NABC/D2SIDA POTW honors for his efforts.
Tomashek wasn't the only Husky recording a career day in Saturday's win, as Dawson Nordgaard posted the first double-double of his career, chipping in 10 points and 10 rebounds in 23 minutes on the court.
Nordgaard and senior Pete Calcaterra join Tomashek with double-figure scoring at 11.5 points per game. Calcaterra leads the team in rebounds with 5.7 per game, while Josh Terrian adds 4.7 rebounds and 1.8 assists.
One Last Thing
Tomashek, the GLIAC Preseason Player of the Year selection, ranks second in the land in points per game (28.3) with two of the highest scoring games in Division II as his 40-point game is tied for fourth-most points and his 36-point outing against Maryville ranking 14th.
