HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech soccer team won its third straight game and remained unbeaten in their last five with a 1-0 victory over Parkside Sunday (Sept. 17) at Kearly Stadium. The Huskies improved to 3-1-2 on the season and 2-0 in the GLIAC, handing the Rangers their first loss of the season.

"This is a group that is believing," Tech coach Turk Ozturk said. "They're buying in and believing in the process, their teammates, and the game plan.

"Parkside is a very aggressive and talented team. They have a lot of great individual players, and we were able to hold them in check. It was a collective effort."

The Huskies controlled play from the first kick. Julia Pietila had a great scoring chance 16:00 in on a shot that went just wide. Seulgi Lee had a quality chance blocked away and then took a free kick into traffic that deflected away a couple of minutes later.

Seulgi Lee finally found the back of the net 24:14 into the game with a free kick from just outside of the box. Lee's fourth goal of the season was scored with a shot high and inside the goalpost to the left of the goalkeeper.

"We knew that she was going to be a goal scorer and playmaker," Ozturk said about Lee. "She's a player that is very experienced. She's so technical and good on the ball and is getting more and more comfortable with her teammates. For her to have her second game-winner is awesome."

Tech had more scoring chances but couldn't push the lead further. Taylor Noble hit the crossbar with 2:30 left in the first half. Cassie Bonifas nailed the corner of the crossbar and goal post 5:00 into the second half, and Kiersen Korienek had a great chance after she collected a long feed from Molly Bolang but UWP goalkeeper Mia Guyton was in position for a big save.

Parkside (3-1-1, 0-1-1 GLIAC) wasn't able to find the offense as the Tech defense—which has only allowed one goal in the last three games—stood its ground. Gracie VanLangevelde made two saves to earn her third win of the season.

The Huskies led in total shots 12-5 and corners 7-0.

Tech hits the road to Saginaw Valley State Friday and Ferris State Sunday for the first conference road trip of the season.
