HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech soccer team earned a 2-0 shutout victory over Roosevelt on Friday evening at Kearly Stadium. The Huskies scored late in the first half and added an insurance goal late in the game to win their first game of the season.

"I'm so incredibly proud of our team tonight," Tech coach
Melissa Kuhar said. "All the hard work and tough moments built this win. The credit is all to the players who, even through the ups and downs, keep putting in the work and believing it was possible. We put a full 90-minute game together, scored two amazing scrappy goals, and got the team shutout!

Karli Koskinen finally broke through for the Huskies with a lob shot over the goalkeeper and into the back of the net at 44:08.
Marissa Wentland and
Olivia Gette were credited with the assists.

Reilly Lovercheck added to the lead at 84:51 when she waited for a rebound after a shot by
Karli Koskinen was saved. Lovercheck chipped it in for her fifth career goal.

Bri Barrows earned the shutout win with nine saves. Kaylee Sarnicola stopped 12 shots on the other end of the ice.

Tech led in shots 22-16 and corners 4-2, while the Lakers took 12 fouls to the Huskies six.

Tech wraps up the weekend on Sunday at noon against Purdue Northwest. The Lions tied Northern Michigan 0-0 on Friday in Marquette.
