SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. — Michigan Tech limited Lake Superior State to a single point in the second quarter and finished with a 66-44 GLIAC women's basketball victory today.

The Huskies (13-5, 11-3 GLIAC) shot 49 percent from the floor and held the Lakers (4-16, 3-11 GLIAC) to 32 percent in the contest.

LSSU used a 5-0 run to pull within 22-16 at the end of the first quarter. Tech then outscored the hosts 14-1 in the second quarter for a 36-17 advantage at intermission.

In the second half, the Lakers got as close as 13 (53-40) with six minutes to play. Tech's Danielle Blake answered with back-to-back buckets to push the margin to 17 and change the momentum.

"This was a big win for us," said Tech coach Kim Cameron. "We hadn't swept a weekend trip all season, and our team is thrilled to get this one.

"It's been a tough place for us to play over the years, and we got the job done."

Tech post players had a strong day. Elizabeth Kelliher notched a career-high 16 points. Kylie Moxley recorded 15 points and seven rebounds. Blake also reached double figures with 12 points.

Mackenzie Perttu did not score, but had a career-high eight assists with only one turnover.

The Black and Gold scored 18 points off of 16 LSSU turnovers and posted a 40-12 advantage in points in the paint.

Michigan Tech will play its third game in five days when it travels to Northern Michigan on Monday (Feb. 1). Tipoff is slated for 6 p.m.
