Box Score HOUGHTON, Mich. - Senior Lynn Giesler and junior Sam Hoyt each scored 18 points to lead the No. 19 Michigan Tech women's basketball team to a 69-48 win over Grand Valley State in GLIAC play Saturday (Jan. 21).
"We bounced back after a loss Thursday to Ferris," said head coach Kim Cameron. "Today was a good, tough, hard fought win."
Grand Valley led for the first 12 minutes until Hoyt drained a 3-pointer to give the Huskies a 17-16 lead. Giesler would give Tech the lead for good with a basket at the 6:40 mark.
The Huskies led at halftime, 33-23, after shooting 48-percent (14-29) in the first half. Tech's shooting improved in the second half to the tune of 60-percent (14-23) as it out-scored the Lakers, 36-25, over the final 20 minutes.
"I was really proud of our ability to move the ball," said Cameron regarding the team's 21 assists. Hoyt led the team with seven.
Tech tallied a 32-16 scoring advantage in the paint, but was out rebounded 37-34, including 16-6 on the offensive glass.
Briauna Taylor led the Lakers with a game-high 19 points.
Tech (12-4, 7-3 GLIAC) will play at Northwood Thursday (Jan. 26).
