UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - Junior Ali Haidar scored a career-high 36 points for the
Michigan Tech men's basketball team in a 77-71 loss at Saginaw
Valley State Saturday (Jan. 14).
Haidar shot 15-of-23 from the field and finished 6-of-7 from the
free throw line. Haidar's streak of double-doubles ended at eight
after he finished with seven rebounds.
Tech enjoyed a six point lead at halftime, 31-25, but Saginaw
Valley went on a 13-0 run five minutes into the second half to lead
48-39.
The Huskies got within three points thanks to a lay-up by senior Mike Hojnacki at 4:10. SVSU would answer with an 11-2
run for a 12-point lead, 66-54, its largest of the game.
The Cardinals would make 11 of their final 13 free throws to seal
the win 77-71.
"We didn't play poorly offensively," said head coach Kevin Luke. "We didn't play well defensively in the
second half and didn't do a good job of rebounding."
Sophomore Austin Armga finished with 14 points, 10 of which
came in the second half for the Huskies.
Saginaw out-rebounded the Huskies 32-25, including 14-4 on the
offensive glass.
Tech finished with 12 turnovers to Saginaw's six.
The Huskies shot 56-percent (27-48) from the field, 47-percent
(8-17) from 3-point and 82-percent (9-11) from the free throw
line.
Greg Foster led four Cardinals in double figures with 17
points.
Tech will host Ferris State Thursday (Jan. 19).
