HOUGHTON, Mich. - The Michigan Tech women's tennis team lost a
7-2 decision to Ferris State today at Gates Tennis Center. Another
slow start in doubles plagued the Huskies, who fell to 1-5 overall
and 1-5 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
play.
"We are still struggling to put it together to win a match,"
said head coach
Mike
Axford. "We are just pressing too much. We need to be more
positive and do the simple things better."
Ferris grabbed a 3-0 lead after the doubles. Tech's No. 1 duo
of Nathalia
Rondelli and Ploy
Suthijindawong posted the closest score in their 8-5
loss.
In singles, the Huskies grabbed two straight-set wins at the
middle of the lineup. Rondelli was a 6-3, 6-1 winner at No. 3.
Freshman Anna
Hegyi improved to a team-best 3-1 in singles with a 6-3, 6-0
victory at No. 4.
Tech's
Natalia Lebedeva played a hard-fought match at No. 2
before falling 6-3, 6-4. The other three singles flights were won
by FSU in decisive fashion.
Michigan Tech will remain at home for a 3 p.m. match vs.
Tiffin on Thursday (Sept. 30).
