HOUGHTON, Mich. - Freshman Katie Boardman scored her first
career goal to lift Michigan Tech to a 1-0 nonconference win over
Minn. Duluth Sunday (Sept. 12) at Sherman Field. With the win, Tech
improves to 2-2-0 overall and Duluth falls to 0-2-2.
"Our outside forwards did a great job of coming back and playing
defense," said head coach Michelle
Jacob. "This allowed us to keep going forward. Our players also
really battled today. They fought for every 50-50 ball."
The Bulldogs out shot the Huskies 23-12 in the contest but Tech
finished with a 9-5 advantage in shots on goal.
The Huskies had two quality scoring chances in the first half
hitting the crossbar both times.
UMD had two quality opportunities in the second but both shots went
wide of the goal.
Freshman Melanie
Hoffman passed to Boardman who dribbled through the UMD defense
and sent a shot past a diving Hannah Bengston for the games lone
goal at 77:16.
Freshman MaryBeth Spoehr made nine saves in her second career
shutout for the Huskies. Bengston made five saves in the loss.
