UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Michigan Tech women's tennis
team won its fourth straight match by scoring a 6-3 decision at
Saginaw Valley State this afternoon. The Huskies strong play
through the middle of the singles lineup helped Tech improve to 5-4
overall and 5-4 in GLIAC play.
Michigan Tech won two of the three doubles matches. Natalia
Lebedeva and Asel
Otunchieva earned an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles. Caitlin
Hartley and Anna
Hegyi combined for an 8-5 at No. 3.
In singles, Tech claimed wins at Nos. 2 through 5. Nathalia
Rondelli was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at No. 3. Lebedeva overcame a
5-4 first-set deficit at No. 2 to win 7-5, 6-1.
Hegyi scored the deciding team point with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph
at No. 4. Otunchieva earned a third-set tiebreaker victory 4-6,
6-3, 11-9.
"We played a scrappy match," said head coach
Mike
Axford. "Playing outside for the first time in a while, we
started a little slowly and got better as the match wore on. We
played well today and will look to use this as a confidence builder
for tomorrow."
Michigan Tech will play at Northwood tomorrow at 10 a.m. in
its final road match of the fall regular season.
