MIDLAND, Mich. - Michigan Tech defeated Saginaw Valley State
5-3 in a GLIAC Tournament second round match today. The Huskies
moved a match over .500 at 7-6 and advanced into tomorrow's GLIAC
Tournament fifth-place match tomorrow with the win.
Tech claimed two of three doubles points, winning 8-5 at No. 1
and 8-2 at No. 2. SVSU was an 8-2 winner at No. 3 doubles.
In singles, the Huskies swept the points at the top of the
lineup. Senior Nathalia
Rondelli posted a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 3 to push Tech's team
lead to 3-1.
Junior Ploy
Suthijindawong secured a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 1 singles.
Freshman Natalia
Lebedeva closed out the match with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No.
2.
"We played a scrappy match today," said head coach
Mike
Axford. "It was not a great match, but good enough to
win.
"We're going to have to raise our level tomorrow."
Michigan Tech will wrap up its action in the GLIAC Tournament
tomorrow with its third match of the weekend. The Huskies will face
Ashland in the fifth-place match at 9:30 a.m.
