MIDLAND, Mich. - Sixth-seeded Michigan Tech lost to
third-seeded Ferris State 5-2 in a marathon match to open the 2010
Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament tonight.
The Bulldogs improved to 10-2 overall and moved into the GLIAC
Tournament semifinal while the Huskies fell to 6-6 and will play in
the lower half of the bracket.
The match, which took more than four hours, wasn't decided
until after 11 p.m.
FSU won two of three doubles matches. Tech's win came at the
No. 1 position, where Ploy
Suthijindawong and Nathalia
Rondelli posted an 8-5 victory. The Bulldogs won both the other
doubles flights by 8-2 scores.
In singles, every match was closely contested. Tech's lone win
came at No. 2, where Natalia
Lebedeva defeated Amy Ingle 7-5, 6-4.
Ferris won three-set matches at No. 1 and No. 5 as well as a
straight set victory at No. 3. Matches at No. 4 and No. 6 singles
were unfinished.
Next up for the Huskies will be Saginaw Valley State tomorrow
at 3:45 p.m.
