MANKATO, Minn. - Minnesota State scored three power play goals
to defeat Michigan Tech 5-2 in WCHA play Friday (Nov. 27). Senior
Zach Harrison paced the Mavericks with one goal and three assists
on the night.
Mankato (5-7-1, 3-7-1) finished with a 41-29 advantage in shots
over Tech (3-8-0, 2-7-0).
MSU opened the game with three goals in the first period and
followed up with two more goals in the second period to earn a 5-0
lead.
Tech answered with a pair of goals of its own in the second
period.
Sophomore Ricky Doriott made a long
pass from his defensive end to senior Drew Dobson who beat
sophomore goalie Austin Lee for his first goal of the season. Tech
goalie Josh Robinson also assisted
on the power play goal at 9:22 of the second period.
Sophomore Brett Olson netted his
team-leading 13th point of the season with a power play goal at
15:58 of the second period. Senior Malcolm Gwilliam and
freshman Steven
Seigo each assisted on the goal. Seigo currently ranks tied for
11th in the WCHA in assists with eight.
Freshman Kevin
Genoe (2-6-0) made six saves and allowed three goals before
being replaced by Robinson who finished with 30 saves and gave up
two goals.
On the other end, Lee (4-4-0) made 27 saves and allowed both
goals.
The two teams will close the series Saturday. Game time is set for
8:07 pm Eastern.
