TECH FALLS, 77-54, TO NORTHERN MICHIGAN IN GLIAC QUARTERFINALS

Huskies End Season At 13-15

MARQUETTE, Mich. -- Despite a career-high 27 points from junior Tim Strom (Marquette, Mich.), the Michigan Tech men's basketball team saw its season come to an end Tuesday night after Northern Michigan defeated the Huskies, 77-54, in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Quarterfinal game in front of 1,057 fans at the Berry Events Center.

The home team gained a 33-23 lead heading into halftime, off the hot shooting of Ricky Volcy, who compiled 15 of his 29 points in the opening half.

Strom kept the Huskies in the contest by draining six of the 11 shots he took from the field. He added one three-pointer and a free-throw, to hold 14 points at the break.

Tech shot 36 percent (9-25) in the frame, compared to a 52.4 percent (11-21) mark for the Wildcats.

Volcy took over in the second half,adding another 14 points to his first-half total, including three more shots from behind the arc. As a team, the Wildcats shot 66.7 percent (14-21) in the second session.

Strom posted a 13-point effort in the final 20 minutes, off 4-for-7 shooting from the field. He also poured in two free-throws.

NMU finished with a 59 percent shooting percentage (25-42), while MTU held a 36 percent mark from the field (20-56).

Robby Springborn (Fond du Lac, Wis.) was the Huskies' second-leading scorer with nine points, as he made three shots from the field, while also going 3-for-3 from the charity stripe.

Tech out-rebounded Northern Michigan by a count of 19-18.

Beyond Volcy, Will Washington and Chris Warner added 16 and 13 points, respectively.

The Huskies finished the year with a 13-15 overall record.

Notes: Three seniors -- Stephen Folson (New Haven, Mich.), Radayl Richardson (Detroit, Mich./St. Martin De Porres) and Ed Ross (Fond du Lac, Wis.) -- each played their final game in a Tech uniform Tuesday night.
