HUSKIES KNOCK OFF LEAGUE LEADER GANNON, 75-61

HOUGHTON, Mich. -- Michigan Tech poured in 12 three-pointers and held Gannon to its worst shooting of the season en route to a 75-61 victory tonight at the SDC Gym. Four different players scored in double figures for Tech, which improved to 14-7 overall and 8-5 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with the win. Gannon entered the evening with the league's best record, but fell to 15-5 overall and 9-2 in league play.

"This is a big win," said head coach John Barnes. "We played really well on the defensive end all night. On the other end, we executed our offense, got open shots and knocked them down."

Tech bolted out to a 16-6 lead in the first five minutes behind back-to-back three-pointers from Sarah Stream and Alicia Schneider. The hosts drained their fifth triple of the evening 10 minutes later for a 31-16 advantage. Stream hit her third long range shot and the team's sixth at the 3:00 mark. She had another basket two possessions later to cap a 19-point half and help the Huskies to a 41-25 lead at the intermission.

Stream was held scoreless in the second half, but it mattered little. Tech led by double figures for all but two minutes of the frame. Jenna Bartels scored six consecutive points as part of her 14-point half for a 20-point margin with 6:54 to play. The MTU defense held Gannon off the board from the 2:19 mark until 10 seconds left when Ashley Lowdermilk banked in a three-pointer to make the final margin 14.

Tech shot 39 percent from the field and limited the Knights to 34 percent. The Huskies cashed in on 12-of-23 three-pointers compared to 5-of-19 for the visitors.

Stream had four rebounds and four assists to go with her 19 points. Bartels tallied 15 points for the game, as did Katie Zimmerman, who swished five buckets from behind the arc. Danae Danen matched a career high with 12 points including a 6-of-6 mark at the free throw line.

Katie Wysocky, who entered the game averaging 20 points over the last two weeks, was limited to six points. She still contributed with four rebounds, four assists and four steals. Schneider totaled six points, six rebounds, and a game-high six assists.

Michigan Tech will remain home to face Mercyhurst on Saturday (Feb. 3) at 1 p.m.

Notes: Michigan Tech is now 13-2 all-time against Gannon including a 7-0 mark in games played at the SDC Gym ... Tech limited GU's Christina Jackson, who entered the night ranked second in the league in scoring and first in rebounds, to 10 points and five boards.
