THE GAME
Michigan Tech (3-4) hosts Wisconsin-Stout (3-5) tonight at the SDC
Gym with opening tipoff slated for 7 p.m. The game is the Huskies'
home opener.
STROM IN GLIAC TOP 12 IN SCORING,
REBOUNDING
Senior Tim Strom averages 17.1 points and 6.0 rebounds per game to
lead Michigan Tech in both categories. The 6-7 forward is one of
only four players in the GLIAC to rank in the top 12 in both
categories. Strom is sixth in scoring and 12th in rebounding. The
Marquette, Mich., native has scored 120 points this season and
needs another 96 to become the 21st player in school history to
score 1,000 points. He currently sits at 904 career points.
HISTORY VS. WISCONSIN-STOUT
Michigan Tech has played against Wisconsin-Stout just once
previously that matchup coming to open the 2002-03 season.
The Huskies won that game with a 93-71 score.
FINALLY AT HOME
After seven straight road games to open its 2007-08 season, the
Michigan Tech men's basketball team will finally get to play a home
game. The Huskies played games in four different states to start
the season. Tuesday's (Dec. 11) contest will be their latest home
opener since the 1968-69 season, when they didn't play at home
until January 4. Tech has 19 games left on its regular season
schedule, with 11 of those at home and eight on the road.
ALPERS SETS HIGH IN REBOUNDS
Junior Kris Alpers shattered his career high in rebounds with 13 at
Northern Michigan last Saturday (Dec. 8). His previous career best
was eight. The 6-9 center averages 11.6 points and 5.3 rebounds per
game. He also ranks in the GLIAC top 10 in field goal percentage at
58.7.
FRESHMEN STRONG AT NORTHERN
Freshmen Don Fowler and Mike Szatko both had solid games at
Northern Michigan last Saturday (Dec. 8). Fowler registered his
second straight game in double figures with 10 points. He also had
four rebounds and no turnovers in 37 minutes of action. Szatko's
appearance at NMU was just the second game of his career, but he
made the most of it by draining two 3-pointers in eight minutes of
action. The two triples were the first two field goal attempts of
the 6-4 forward's career.
HEAD COACH KEVIN LUKE
Head Coach Kevin Luke, who is in his 14th season at Michigan Tech,
is the winningest coach in the program's history. The four-time
Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year
(1994-95, 1997-98, 2001-02, 2003-04) who was the 2002-03 National
Coach of the Year owns a 250-135 all-time record (.649).
