Wysocky Tallies 20 Points, Seven Rebounds
HILLSDALE, Mich. -- Michigan Tech scored 19 points in the final
three minutes to make it a two-point game before Hillsdale finally
prevailed, 69-65, in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference women's basketball game today.
Sarah Stream capped a Huskies' comeback with 21 seconds left as she
stole a backcourt pass and made a layup. Tech was forced to foul
just two ticks later and Hillsdale made its free throws. The
Chargers cashed in on six-of-six foul shots in the final 19 seconds
and 21-of-27 in the game to secure the victory.
Katie Wysocky had another outstanding performance for the Black and
Gold. The freshman notched 20 points, seven rebounds and three
steals in the loss to cap a two-game streak where she amassed 44
points and 23 boards. Stream finished with 17 points -- 14 in the
second half of play.
Hillsdale led by as many as eight points in the first half before
Tech rallied to tie the score at 26 on Sarah Stream's
three-pointer. HC's Jessie Miller answered with a three-pointer for
the 29-26 halftime margin.
The hosts built up a nine-point lead in the first seven minutes of
the second half. The gap was its highest at 59-46 with 2:47 to go
before the Huskies began their comeback. Jenna Bartels drained
back-to-back three-pointers with 1:54 to play to cut the deficit to
nine.
Then Stream scored five straight points to cut it to 62-57 at 1:13.
Hillsdale split two free throws before Tech scored four points in
14 seconds to make it a 63-61 game. HC then iced it with the six
straight foul shots.
Tech shot 45 percent from the field and held the Chargers to 38
percent. The hosts utilized a 41-32 rebounding advantage and 11
more makes at the foul line to get the victory.
Michigan Tech (11-7, 5-5 GLIAC) will return home for a short while
before traveling to its next game on Thursday (Jan. 25) at Saginaw
Valley State.
Notes: HC turned the ball over the first two possessions of the
game before going the rest of the stanza without one ... Wysocky
finished a week with 44 points and 23 rebounds.
